Charles Rudolph Walgreen was born on October 9, 1873 on a farm near Galesburg, Illinois. His parents were Swedish immigrants. In 1887, the family moved to Dixon, Illinois where Charles older brother had gone to attend the new Northern Illinois Normal School.
