Henry II (German: Heinrich; 1107 – 13 January 1177), called Jasomirgott, a member of the House of Babenberg, was Count Palatine of the Rhine from 1140 to 1141, Duke of Bavaria (as Henry XI) and Margrave of Austria from 1141 to 1156, and the first Duke of Austria from 1156 until his death.

Henry II Jasomirgott, Duke of Austria, died on this day in 1177. He is particularly notable for moving the capital of Austria to Vienna, the city which, because of that, eventually became the capital of an entire empire, with a population of millions and enormous cultural significance.
As compensation for this, Austria, the capital of which had been transferred to Vienna about 1155, was elevated into a duchy according to the Privilegium Minus. Rise to power. The second duke was Henry's son Leopold V, who succeeded him in 1177 and took part in the crusades of 1182 and 1190 as well as the Third Crusade.
Henry II was the eighth and last Margrave of Austria and the first Duke of Austria. He ruled in that capacity for 15 years and then served as Duke of Austria for 21 years after that. He was born in 1107, the son of the sixth Margrave of Austria, Leopold III and Agnes of Germany.
