Born in Seattle, Washington, March 16, 1947, Kechley was educated at the University of Washington, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Case Western Reserve University. His teachers include Paul Tufts, Robert Suderburg, William Bergsma, James Beale, and Donald Erb.
At Williams, my research will focus on understanding how nitrogen fertilization influences the activity of plants and decomposer microbes, as well as the cycling and stabilization of carbon in forest soils.

Our approach enables us to tune a number of specific characteristics of these one-dimensional materials, such as temperature range for self-assembly and the strength of intermolecular interactions by means of molecular design and synthesis.
