Esau. ESAU e’ sô ( עֵשָׂ֛ו, hairy ), son of Isaac and Rebekah, and elder twin brother of Jacob. He is also named Edom, meaning Red. As Esau grew up he became an outdoor man who enjoyed hunting. He brought venison home to his father and became his father’s favorite.

Jacob and Esau God saw a chance for Jacob to be molded into the man God wanted him to be while Esau was pretty egotistical and couldn't be changed. Neither one followed God in the beginning. Esau didn't honor his birthright and didn't care that he had sold it (he wasn't tricked) until Isaac gave the blessing to Jacob.
Esau was the twin-brother of Jacob and the legendary ancestor of the Edomites, whose territory lay southwest of Judah. As the grandson of Abraham and the firstborn son of Isaac and Rebekah, he seemed poised for greatness. In antiquity, the firstborn was the natural successor to the father, and the principle applied even to twins.
