The Arizona Garden is a historical garden in the process of renovation and preservation. It is located on the south side of the mausoleum off of Quarry Road between Campus Drive and Arboretum Road. The garden, also known as the Cactus Garden, was designed for Jane and Leland Stanford by landscape architect Rudolf Ulrich between 1881 and 1883.
This garden, comprised of more than 500 different types of cacti and sun-tolerant succulent plants, was first designed for the Stanford family in 1880, but it lingered in neglect for over a century until the 1990s, when grounds staff at the university began to restore it to glory.

Jun 2018 • Friends. Walking around the cactus garden is peaceful and beautiful. The Stanford Mausoleum is right next to the garden, and don't miss the beautiful Angel of Grief. Mar 21, 2021 · Originally, Jane and Leland Stanford commissioned the design of The Stanford Arizona Cactus Garden by landscape architect Rudolf Ulrich in 1881. They planned on building a beautiful home surrounded by a manmade lake and lovely gardens. Sadly, their only son died of typhoid fever at the age of 15, in 1884.
Sept 2018. It's a nice place to come and just admire some of the cacti. It might be a little hard to find depending on where you're coming from b/c they're doing some remodeling as of (9/28/18). There are various different types of succulents and Cacti to take pictures of, just be careful not to get too close to hurt yourself.
