Synopsis. Shen Lian (Chang Chen) is a soldier who – in a sudden act of bravery on a blood-soaked battlefield – manages to save an Imperial guard named Lu Wen Zhao (Zhang Yi) from impending doom. To thank him, Lu Wen Zhao takes Shen Lian with him to the Imperial capital to become a guardsman.
