Founded in 1949, UBC's Museum of Anthropology has grown into the largest teaching museum in Canada. Its current facility—a gorgeous building that includes tall glass walls in the Great Hall—was designed in 1976 by renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson.
The Museum of Anthropology (part of the University of British Columbia) houses one of the world's most impressive collections of art and artifacts from the Northwest Coast First Nations.
MOA is temporarily closed from January 2023 to June 2024 for seismic upgrades and building improvements. It offers access to Indigenous communities, special events and digital school programs during the closure.
An incredible anthropology museum! Located on UBC campus, this museum focuses on local history and culture but also shares voices from around the world. I spent a good 3 hours here and still didn't have enough time to explore every nook and cranny! Their permanent collection is impressive.
