First opened in 1762, it is the oldest Ashkenazi synagogue in Britain and holds the European record of nearly 250 unbroken years of use. The synagogue itself, listed as Grade II*, is uniquely beautiful and is renowned amongst both Jews and non-Jews for its peaceful and spiritual ambience.
