Nov 30, 2011 · Nakanoshima Park is the perfect place to be after a long day of sightseeing in Osaka. It's just a train’s stop from Umeda or a 20-minute walk south of Osaka station. ‘Nakanoshima’ basically means “Island in the Center”, in this case the center of Osaka.
The Nakanoshima Park (中之島公園, Nakanoshima kōen) is the first public park opened by Osaka in 1891, after its foundation as a city. It is located in Kita ward, on the Nakanoshima sandbank, lying between Dōjima and Tosabori Rivers.
Nakanoshima Park is a waterfront park nestled between the Dojimagawa and Tosaborigawa rivers. The park, about 1.5 km in length and 10.6 ha in area, is an urban oasis filled with greenery attracting a lot of citizens.
In pleasant weather, take a stroll through Nakanoshima Park, which provides a peaceful refuge from the otherwise bustling city. In the evening, head to Nakanoshima Festival Tower for a magnificent view of the city.
Nakanoshima is a small island located in the north of Osaka city center, surrounded by the Dojima and Tasobori rivers. Of about 50 hectares and 3 kilometers in length, it can easily be explored by walking.

Nakanoshima Park is also loved by local people as a refreshing place in a business urban area. There are many retro buildings such as Osaka City Public Hall and Nakanoshima Public Library that were built in the Meiji period around the park.
Established in 1891, Nakanoshima has the distinction of being Osaka’s first park. It also held the city’s first beer garden as well as a few upscale restaurants. Stretching 1.5 kilometers long, Nakanoshima is sandwiched between two rivers: Dojima-gawa and Tosabori-gawa.
