He was a son of Guðrøðr Óláfsson, King of the Isles and Fionnghuala Nic Lochlainn. Óláfr was a younger son of his father; Óláfr's elder brother, Rǫgnvaldr, probably had a different mother.
Olaf the black was not just a viking, he was Scottish, native Celtic, and the last of the Norse kings. His son Leod had two sons Tormond and Torquil McLeod. Hi there, Olaf is also said to be the father, or Grand father (depending on the source) of brothers Guinne (clan Gunn) and Sweyn (Swansons).

Olaf the Black (1173-1237) was Count of Mann from 1229 to 1237, succeeding Rognvaldr Gudrodarson and preceding Haraldr Olafsson. Olaf Gudrodarson was born in 1173, the son of Count Gudrodr Olafsson of Mann and the half-brother of Rognvaldr Gudrodarson.
