Maria Karolina Zofia Felicja Leszczyńska (Polish: [ˈmarja lɛʂˈt͡ʂɨj̃ska]; 23 June 1703 – 24 June 1768), also known as Marie Leczinska (French: [maʁi lɛɡzɛ̃ska]), was Queen of France as the wife of King Louis XV from their marriage on 4 September 1725 until her death in 1768.
Marie Leszczyńska was the queen consort of King Louis XV of France (ruled 1715–74). Although she had no direct influence on French politics, her Polish dynastic connections involved France in a European conflict that resulted in the eventual annexation of Lorraine by France.
Marie Leszczyńska, daughter of the deposed King of Poland, married Louis XV in 1725 thanks to the influence of the Duke of Bourbon. Kept out of serious business and not held in particularly high regard in the Court, the Queen devoted her energies to the convent she founded in the town of Versailles for the education of poor girls.
In 1725 Marie Leszczyńska, hailing from a Polish noble family, became Queen of France, to universal astonishment. Two decades earlier, when still an infant, her father Stanisław Leszczyński was elected King of Poland by the nobility of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Her father’s reign as King of Poland lasted just four years, and the loss of his Kingdom was compensated by giving him the administration of the Duchy of Zweibrücken.
