'the Barrier', Hejazi Arabic pronunciation: [ alħɪˈdʒaːz]) is a region that includes the majority of the west coast of Saudi Arabia, covering the cities of Mecca, Medina, Jeddah, Tabuk, Yanbu, Taif and Baljurashi.
Hejaz, region of western Saudi Arabia, along the mountainous Red Sea coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It came under the control of the Saud dynasty (of the Najd region) after the Wahhabi invasion in 1924 ousted Hussein ibn Ali, the sharif of Mecca, and his son. It is home to the two holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
