Its history centres around the Falls Church (Episcopal; 1767–69), which was built on the site of an earlier church erected in 1734 and named for its nearness to the Great Falls of the Potomac River.

Apr 16, 2014 · Taking its name from The Falls Church, an 18th-century Anglican parish, Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875. In 1948, it was incorporated as the City of Falls Church, an independent city with county-level governance status.
About & History. In 1976 as the nation celebrated its 200th anniversary there was a renewed interest in historic preservation. The City of Falls Church chose the restoration and preservation of Cherry Hill Farm as its special bicentennial project. It was a cooperative effort between the City and community groups.
