Torrington is the most populated municipality and largest city in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States, and the Northwest Hills Planning Region. It is also the core city of Greater Torrington, one of the largest micropolitan areas in the United States. [2] The city population was 35,515 according to the 2020 census. [3]

Torrington is the birthplace of the abolitionist, John Brown. Born here in 1800, he moved with his family to Ohio while still a young boy. The house that Brown was born in was destroyed by fire in 1918. Today, this historic site is part of the Connecticut African American Freedom Trail.
Torrington was designated the second “Cultural District” in the State of Connecticut in April 2022 due to its multitude of nonprofit and for-profit cultural facilities, activities, and assets in its expansive downtown area.
