Loretta Sanchez was a Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1997 to 2016. She sponsored bills on armed forces, education, taxation, crime and law enforcement, and private legislation.
Sanchez came out of political obscurity to defeat an entrenched Anglo-American congressman in the 1996 national election. By the early 21st century, however, Sanchez was well entrenched in Congress herself, and she had become a figure of national renown.
