John Goodman as James P. Sullivan, a large, furry cyan monster with purple spots and the protagonist of the film. At the start of the film, is Monsters, Inc.'s top scarer. After Waternoose's plan is revealed, Sulley becomes the CEO of the company, overseeing the collection of laughter from children.
Monsters, Inc. is set in Monstropolis, a city inhabited by monsters, some of whom are those who emerge from bedroom closets to scare human children. This is used to collect the screams of kids, which power the city.
Monsters are the main species of the films Monsters Inc. and its prequel, Monsters University. In general, the monsters of Monstropolis are often diverse in appearance. Most monsters are often brightly colored and come in all shapes and sizes.
