The cave was situated on a campground, that contained some walking trails around the grounds. At 12:15 pm, our name was called over their loudspeaker and we started boarding the boat. The boat was on the smaller side and there were around 7-8 people on it.

Spook Cave is a flooded cave located about seven miles (11 km) west of McGregor in rural Clayton County, Iowa. It is privately owned and operated as a tourist attraction offering escorted boat rides into the cave. The cave was first discovered in 1953 and opened for business in 1955.

May 12, 2019 · As the name suggests, Spook Cave is an actual cave! Spook Cave was first discovered in 1953 by a man called Gerald Mielke after he heard ‘spooky’ noises coming from the inside of the bluff. After some digging around and exploring, he eventually opened it to the public in 1955 .
If camping isn't your thing, Spook Cave & Campground also has cabins to rent. In 2022 we are introducing our first year-round rental - Bluff View Cabin. Sleeping up to 16 guests, this is our largest cabin with the most amenities. Our nine seasonal cabins are available for rental from May through October.
