Joplin's interest into the mystical grew early. Her house contained statues of the Persian god Thoth, a god that also represented death and wisdom. She was particularly interested in the early years of the problem, even as she was young and it was still relatively new. Still, Joplin never possessed any trace of talent, meaning she could never actually see, hear or feel visitors, though she regretted that fact.
Pamela Joplin also became part of the leading duo of Sweet Dreams Excavation and Clearance, along with Sebastian Saunders. While Saunders was responsible for the business site of things, like contracting agents or other workers, Joplin was concerned with the research of potentially dangerous gravesites and their assessment. She was skilled in her work, allowing the firm to work with little incidents, as visitors were known before manifesting. For this work, she grew to prefer a classical approach, using books over databases like the Fittes Database.
Pamela Joplin played a vital role in the Bickerstaff Case, as her interest in the Bone Glass led to her commissioning Jack Carver and Danny Clough to steal it. This decision led to the search for the Bone Glass, during which she managed to cajole and, in the end, coerce George Cubbins into handing the Bone Glass over to her and almost look into it.
Her interest in the Glass was largely based on her passion for the afterlife and the inner workings of the problem, an interest she shared with Cubbins. Together, they revived the old ideas and experiments of Edmund Bickerstaff to find out more, partly controlled by the ghost of Bickerstaff, partly out of their own interests. In the end, this led to the death of Joplin, as she looked into the Bone Glass after her efforts to force George Cubbins or Lucy Carlyle to look into it failed. Her last words were "It's extraordinary. It's Beautiful. Beautiful!", said while looking into the Glass.
