Upon Harry Blomberg’s death in 1991, ownership of Biltmore Industries transferred to his daughters, Barbara Blomberg and Marilyn Patton, and his son-in-law, S.M. “Buddy” Patton.
Founded in 1984 by Jim and Jane LaFerla, Gallery of the Mountains is more than just a gallery. It’s a testament to the artistic spirit of the Southern Appalachian region. After the LaFerlas’ retirement in 2004, the gallery’s ownership was passed on to Asheville natives Barbara Blomberg, Marilyn Blomberg Patton, and S.M. “Buddy” Patton.

Barbara Blomberg, Marilyn Patton and S.M. “Buddy” Patton established the gallery in 1992. The space’s robust history of supporting local craftspeople stretches back before then, though, to when the gallery housed the Homespun Shops of Biltmore Industries.
