Sonata Arctica was my favorite (power metal) band from like 2001-2007; maybe even until 2011ish, but they fell off a huge cliff.
Gloryhammer and all the bands that put more effort into cosplay and humor than music are the best representative of what the genre is today. But in terms of actual good music, Sacred Outcry and Unleash the Archers. Fellowship. UTA are good but they are not "pure" Power Metal.

A song like Season of Change is a composition these other guys can only dream of making. While there are many other good bands, this is the definitive top 5 and other opinions are wrong, sorry. I don't think Amaranthe is power metal. Its a bit of everything in my eyes.

Would people consider Maiden and Judas Priest as power metal? Maybe just certain albums. They would definitely be in my top 5 of the genre.
