The collection forms an encyclopedic array of Daniel Chester French’s oeuvre and biography: from the monumental marble Andromeda dominating the Studio to diminutive plaster maquettes and studies that line the workroom walls, from an heirloom Colonial-era sofa in the Residence Parlor to modern photographs, drawings, and abstract sculpture.
Daniel Chester French attained prominence as the leading American monumental sculptor of the early twentieth century. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, he spent his youth in Cambridge and Amherst, Massachusetts, before moving with his family to Concord in 1867.
Wonderful look into the life and art of the sculptor Daniel Chester French, known for his Minuteman statue at Concord, Massachusetts, and for the seated Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in our nation's capitol. We opted for a guided tour through the museum and the studio and grounds.

Chesterwood was the summer estate and studio of American sculptor Daniel Chester French (1850–1931) located at 4 Williamsville Road in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Most of French's originally 150-acre (61 ha) estate is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which operates the property as a museum and sculpture garden.
