  1. Jun 26, 2009 · Remove the intake trunk and radiator fan to give yourself some room. The main drive belt has an idler wheel and a tensioner (they look the same), by the alternator. The tensioner is the lower one. Pry off the plastic front cover with a screwdriver, and a breaker bar with a 16mm socket will release the tension.

  6. Feb 12, 2015 · You have to loosen the bolt and rotate the pulley to loosen the belt. To tighten it you use a 10mm (?) hex wrench to turn the pulley and apply tension to the belt. On the alternator/power steering pump/water pump belt tensioner you just put a socket on the bolt and turn it against the tensioner to compress it.

Mine is a 1997 and I have a spare 1998 M44 as well. Can anyone tell me how to remove the mechanical belt tensioner for the power steering, alternator belt?
