Hello. I am considering applying at a brand new fulfillment center that will be opening near me soon. My industry has been decimated by the pandemic and I need to start from square one. But everyone I know that has worked as an engineer for Amazon hated it. I know a lot of software engineers that work for valley companies, and for the FAANG-level companies I hear the best comments for: Microsoft and Apple. Again, that could be sample bias, though.
I work for Amazon (not AWS) currently as an SDE II for 1.5 years. I have found the job very fulfilling. Yes the expectations are high and you most likely will work more than 40 hours per week, but the pay compensates for the extra work IMO.
It's not a good company to work for. Worry about the next company later. Entirely team dependent. But even with that said Amazon is better than 99% of the offer out there, so take it unless ur talking Google Meta MS etc.
So to answer your question: it’s probably not as bad as people make it out to be and if you work there you can try to improve it. However, the company is known for working its people for a reason. If that pressure would be too much for you, there’s no shame in looking for another company if you can. Reply reply.
If you just want to go to work everyday do your job and go home Amazon is a great place to work. And you’ll meet a lot of different people because of the constant turnover. Maybe you’ll even get promoted one day if you want, but beware that comes with more responsibility and longer days.

Amazon is the No. 1 company to work for in 2022, according to LinkedIn. The van drivers aren’t technically Amazon employees. They are independent contractors even though they work exclusively for Amazon driving Amazon branded trucks. Not saying I agree with it but that is how they get away with BS claims like this.
