Libohovë was a centre for the Muslim Sufi Bektashi order with several tekkes located in Dropull. According to the Albanian census of 1989, members of the Greek minority also live in the town. Muslims formed most of Libohovë's population in the late twentieth century. A small settlement, Libohovë is a centre of Sufi Bektashism.
Libohovë is nestled at the foot of the Bureto Mountain. The archaeological evidence indicates a very ancient settlement which reached its zenith in the 17th-century. It is the home of a well-known Albanian noble family who share their name with the town. Prior to the communist era they held considerably sway over the country’s politics.
THE CASTLE OF LIBOHOVA. The castle of Libohova is located east of the city of Libohova. It was built in the 18th century, on the site of a 6 th century fortification. This castle was the dowry that Ali Pashe Tepelena presented on the occasion of his sister’s wedding. The castle has a rectangular shape, measuring 70×80 m.

About Libohova Castle. Libohova Castle (Kalaja e Libohovës) is a castle in the village of Libohova. It was built between 1796 and 1798 and is one of the many fortifications that were erected by the Ottoman ruler Ali Pasha of Tepelena, who dedicated the castle to his sister Shanisha.
