Feb 26, 2023 · Incorporating The Snow And Cold Weather. When it comes to winter family photos, the snow, and cold weather can be used in creative ways. Take for example my own experience; I took some beautiful shots of my family last year with a blanket of white around us!

- Dress for the weather. Seems like a no-brainer right? And yet a surprising number of people don’t think this one through when it comes to dressing for photos.
- Bring a blanket. I recommend a blanket, big scarf or throw rug for outdoor sessions all year round. It provides variety for sessions at the beach or in a park because you can play under it, sit on it, or wrap yourself up in it!
- Enjoy sunset before bedtime! Nothing beats “golden hour” for outdoor photos. It’s that 60 minutes just prior to sunset when shadows are long and the light is warm and flattering.
- Embrace embraces or get ready to move! Get ready to snuggle peeps! There’s a couple of ways to keep warm at a winter session: run & play (love it), wrap up in a blanket (also love it), cuddle someone you care about (love it the best).

Dec 30, 2021 · If it’s cold, plan accordingly: extra blankets and coats for when you’re not posing, hand warmers, and even some hot cocoa in a thermos! Having props and accessories is always a bonus with family photos so this is a great chance to work the cute stay-warm items into the session too.
Feb 12, 2021 · Whether the blanket is needed because everyone is getting too cold or because you have a nice blanket on hand and want to use it for your photo shoot, the “everyone warm and cozy under the blanket” shots always turn out great. The family members have to get really close to one another and they naturally snuggle intimately.
But I did. Because you can successfully take outdoor family photos in winter if you prepare. Maybe you want to send holiday cards, but didn’t get to booking a photography session while the weather was still warm. (And you can still have time to book a family photography session and receive cards in time to mail to loved ones.)
