Sharice is one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress and the first LGBTQ+ Native American elected to Congress. In her role as Representative for the Kansas Third, Sharice serves as the Vice Chair of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and as a member of the House Small Business and Agriculture Committees.
She is the first openly LGBT Native American elected to the U.S. Congress, the first openly lesbian person elected to the U.S. Congress from Kansas, and one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress, along with Deb Haaland of New Mexico.
