Wha'ppen? is the second studio album by British ska band the Beat (credited on the US release as the English Beat), released in 1981 via Go-Feet Records in the United Kingdom and Sire Records in the United States.

Apr 10, 2024 · It was May 1981 when The English Beat released the Wha'ppen full-length album. Despite the wider variety in tempos and vibes, the LP was an undisputed British hit. Critics quickly took to the band's broader musical vision, and fans followed.
- Save It for Later. In 1996, “Save It for Later” was a song of choice for the movie, Kingpin. It happened again in 2010 with Hot Tub Time Machine and yet again in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
- Can’t Get Used to Losing You. Coming from the 1980 album, I Just Can’t Stop It, “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” was a single that wasn’t officially released until 1983, which was remixed and recorded just before The Beat made the decision to go their separate ways.
- Hands Off… She’s Mine. “Hands Off… She’s Mine” was a number one hit on the Irish Singles Chart when it was released in 1980. For The Beat, this was the first and only occasion they achieved a number one hit on any of the official music charts.
- Mirror in the Bathroom. In 1980 from the album, I Just Can’t Stop It, “Mirror in the Bathroom” became a number-four hit on the UK Singles chart after it was released as a single.
Jul 10, 2012 · Wha’ppen? (Edsel EDSG 8017), the second of the three reissues, preserves the original 12-song U.K. album sequence on Disc 1. For their sophomore outing, the members of The Beat and returning producer Bob Sargeant opted for a lower-key vibe but with equally sharp lyrics.
