Ribaldry or blue comedy is humorous entertainment that ranges from bordering on indelicacy to indecency. Blue comedy is also referred to as "bawdiness" or being "bawdy". Like any humour, ribaldry may be read as conventional or subversive.
- Lenny Bruce. Beginning in the late 1950s, Bruce’s act, which included thought provoking material about religion, government and more, came under fire because it exceeded the limits of free speech at the time.
