bgC3 LLC is an American research company established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates in 2008. According to the company's federal trademark registration, it is a think tank, covering scientific and technological services; industrial analysis and research; and design and development of computer hardware and software to combat poverty.
The name is an acronym for Bill Gates Catalyst 3, with the number three indicating a third endeavor for Bill Gates beyond Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It was originally established as Carillon Holdings in March 2008 and then renamed to bgC3 in July, ten days after Gates retired from day-to-day work at Microsoft.
A placeholder website with only a logo was established in October 2008; it began redirecting to gatesnotes.com in 2015.
