NCIS: Los Angeles is a spin-off from NCIS (series) and focus on the NCIS Office of Special Projects located in Los Angeles with the agents assigned to that area investigating cases concerning Naval or Marine personnel that occur in or around Los Angeles itself.
The NCIS Office of Special Projects (OSP) is a branch of NCIS, located in Los Angeles, California, which is dedicated to more covert operations than most of NCIS. This branch is so secretive that for security reasons, it doesn't officially exist.
While much of the show is filmed on location, the NCIS headquarters are filmed on soundstages 8 and 9 at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. Directly outside the soundstage is the set of the entrance to the building.
