Lake Kaweah was formed by the construction of Terminus Dam on the Kaweah River in 1962 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood damage reduction and water conservation. Horse Creek Recreation Area campground has 77 single-family campsites and is located on the shores of the Kaweah River and Kaweah Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The sites are mostly large with great views of the lake. Some sites also have shade structures. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.
Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis until they are submerged by the rising lake water or access road is no longer inaccessible. Selected sites are accessible via water. Boat-in camping is allowed for a $20/night fee. Please contact the Lake Kaweah office at (559) 597-2301 for further information.
