After hours with Jeep Thrills, I have finally pinpointed the mighty Jeep's Achilles' Heel. It's not a boulder, it's not a massive many-story drop, it's not even smashing into another Jeep at high speed. No, every Jeep, according to Jeep Thrills, must contend with the fact that the lowly curb is capable of stopping all forward or sideways momentum.
It's one of many lessons that I learned from Gamesauce and DSI Games' "racing" game. You don't really race, per se, it's more like lazily traveling around a course that looks pulled straight from a mid-life PS one game. That's not an exaggeration; the very things that defined the PS one's particular graphical aesthetics, be it seaming issues, repetitive textures, close draw-/fade-in, fog and low-res models are all the stars of Jeep Thrills.
Oh, and let's not forget that the game manages to even ape PS one games' framerate, which must be in the teens even when there's only one car on screen. Were the world especially detailed or interactive, maybe I could see it putting some strain on the system, but the only things that even react to the world are the Jeeps themselves, which will have their chassis mildly scratched or warped, a bumper might look like it's about to hang off, but otherwise they'll drive away from a couple of rolls unscathed.
Dear Lordy, save yourself a sliver of sanity by never even thinking about playing this game. No amount of money, however miniscule is worth dropping to even see how bad the game is.
