- Don’t get lost! I live near Park Güell, and that means every single day I see bewildered tourists exiting the metro station, looking around for some kind of green area or that familiar friendly salamander… before turning to their phones with a look of puzzlement.
- You don’t need to pay if you don’t want to! Park Güell is not some walled-in garden: its hillside setting actually lends it a pretty rugged, foresty feel in some places.
- Don’t buy tickets from the box office. It is possible to buy tickets from the box office at Park Güell, but there are two distinct disadvantages. One, there will definitely be a long line of people with the same idea.
- Don’t forget to dress smart. As noted above, flip-flops, dressy sandals, or any other impractical shoes are a no-no! As well as the initial climb to get to the park, there are going to be steps and dusty trails, so I wouldn’t wear anything flimsy or fancy on my feet.

Entrance of Park Guell
The main entrance of Park Güell is located on the south side of the park. There are porter's lodges (1901-1903) on both sides of the iron gate (from Casa Vicens). Both buildings are characterised by beautiful roofs, also covered with the typical mosaic work. The right porter's lodge can be visited and contains a small exhibit from the historical MUHBA museum.
The salamander / the dragon
What stands out immediately beyond the entrance are the double dragon stairs. This dragon or salamander consists of many mosaics and is probably the most photographed part of the park. You can also see the coat of arms of Cataloniahalfway up the stairs. Above the salamander is a tripod formed by three snakes.
Sala Hipostila
The large entrance eventually leads to the so-called 'hypostyle' room. This covered area consists of a total of 86 columns and was originally intended to serve as a covered marketplace. It makes the entrance of the parklook more formal. The ceiling of the Hipòstila consists of small domes that have also been decorated with mosaic. These decorative interior arches have been made with tile shards by the artist Josep Maria Jujol.
The school Baldiri Reixac is on the east side of the Greek Theatre. This used to be the mansion Casa Larrard, in which Eusebi Güelland his family resided until his death. After Casa Larrard was sold in 1922, it was converted into a school which was inaugurated when the park opened to the public in 1931.
