Jun 2, 2010 · But “Holy Rollers” is surprisingly matter of fact. Nobody gets shot, nobody gets chased, and Sam’s anguish is internal. The film’s failure is to get from A to B. We buy both good Sam and bad Sam, but we don’t see him making the transition. The film expects us to assume too much.

Dramatically uneven though well-performed and competently directed, Holy Rollers features an intriguing premise yet treads thin ice when battling an inconsistent script.
8/10. Good movie thanks to Eisenberg's brilliant performance, above all. This relatively short (1h 25min) movie is inspired by actual events in the 1990ies when Hasidic Jews were recruited as "mules" to smuggle ecstasy from Europe (mostly from The Netherlands) into the United States.
