Dec 1, 2022 · The Cathedral of St. George (Georgievskii Sobor, 1120–1130) is the main church of the Yuriev Monastery, located 2 km south of Veliky Novgorod on the left bank of the Volkhov River, close to its source: Lake Ilmen (Figure 1). Construction of this church began in 1119, probably simultaneously with the foundation of the monastery.
