I got off the waitlist, ack, 6 years ago. My advice for the statement: take your time, and tailor it to UCD. The person reading your essay wants to know if you'd SIR if they sent you an acceptance, so really try to make UCD sound like your dream school. Submitting your statement later, not late, won't impact your acceptance chance.
