Named for his father, a congressman and successful stockman and banker, Williams was educated in the public school system of Decatur.
While he starred in several inexpensive silent and sound Westerns, Williams is better known for his comedy relief work in such films as Private Worlds (1935), A Star Is Born (1937), Professor Beware (1938), and Santa Fe Trail (1940).
Famous cowboy humorist Will Rogers is alleged to have put this tab on the big strapping youth from Texas named Guinn Williams, who called himself 'Tex' when he met him on the set of Rogers' ALMOST A HUSBAND in 1919 where Williams had a bit part.
