Jul 5, 2020 · The SA-43 Hammerhead is the US Marine Corps (USMC) spaceship featured in Space: Above and Beyond, a 90s American science fiction television show. Full-scale models of the “Hammerhead” fighters used in the series were created in Australia at RAAF Base Williamtown.
It can survive just fine without those "wings" and if designed by an intelligent species it can go without a few engines as well. The main power supply and the cockpit are the main issue and just using a giant window instead of say an armored internal cockpit with view screens isn't very sci-fi or futuristic, it is just copying modern design with some extra bits stapled on.

The series was inspired by the TV series Combat! (1962). Actor Rodney Rowland quit smoking to work on the show, to get in better shape for the action scenes. The sound effects used on the show are often reused on Futurama (1999). Show star Kristen Cloke and creator Glen Morgan met on set. They got married in 1998 and have four children.
