The waitlist option may be used by departments during the Enrollment by Window Period and during Open Enrollment. All waitlists are deactivated by the Registrar on Friday of the second week of instruction at 5 p.m. When waitlists are no longer active, you will not be added to a course via the waitlist system.
If not waitlisted, then all you can do is appeal but you need new compelling information not originally presented on your application. I would wait until all UC decisions are out and you may be surprised. Usually around 20% accepted from waitlist in a typical year for UCI.
Applicants that missed the SIR deadline can submit an Appeal to Late SIR within 15 days of their deadline passing. Appeals may take 6-8 weeks to process and are considered on a case-by-case basis. To submit an Appeal to Late SIR, visit your Admitted Student Portal.
Appeals to Freshman Admission Decisions. UCLA does not set aside space in our class for students who appeal admission decisions. Therefore, though all appeals are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, the number of decisions reversed on appeal is typically very low. We advise you to consider the following carefully before you decide to draft an appeal.
