Yakima (/ ˈ j æ k ɪ m ɑː / or / ˈ j æ k ɪ m ə /) is a city in, and the county seat of, Yakima County, Washington, United States, and the state's 11th most populous city. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 96,968 and a metropolitan population of 256,728.
Originally built along the new Northern Pacific Railway company line, Yakima has grown from its agricultural roots to become a vibrant, diverse metropolitan city. With a rich history and a bright future, Yakima is the Heart of Central Washington. Nobody really knows for sure how Yakima got its name.
