It's odd someone would say that it sounds like a Slavic language. Estonian doesn't really use sounds that would be associated with Slavic languages like z, zh or ch and is a lot less consonant heavy and has more vowels. The only features that might feel a bit Slavic could be palatalisation and maybe the letter õ.
