4 days ago · Built in 1931, this “Cedars“ in St. Louis was a popular house design from the Sears Honor Bilt Modern Homes catalog. Nobody’s counting, but it seems that most of the hundred thousand or so Sears Honor Bilt ready-cut houses constructed across the United States from 1910 to 1940 are still being lived in today.
I’ve noticed sometimes the side of the front gable is curved like in the illustrations, and sometimes it’s more straight like the last two photos. I’d heard the story as a kid about how my grandpa ordered a house from the Sears Catalog and had family from all over come to help build it.
