Otto Schlamme fled from Wurtzburg, Germany at 14 years old in a hay wagon, four days before the November Pogrom of 1938. His family left nearly everything behind. He landed with his family in Houston, Texas. Five years later, Otto became and U.S. citizen and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army.
