The Boring Company ( TBC) is an American infrastructure, tunnel construction services, and equipment company founded by Elon Musk. TBC was founded as a subsidiary of SpaceX in 2017, and was spun off as a separate corporation in 2018. TBC has completed one tunneling project that is open to the public, as well as multiple test tunnels.
Boring Company tunnels support both Loop and Hyperloop systems. The 0.8 mile Hyperloop Test Track, or Hypertube, was constructed in 2016 and been the site of four student competitions, where student-built Pods reached speeds of up to 288 mph.

Once a tunnel boring machine has reached its operating depth of two tunnel diameters, tunneling causes less noise and vibration at the surface than a pedestrian. Most utilities are located within 10 feet of the surface. Our tunnels are typically more than 30 feet below the surface, where underground space is currently unused.

Prufrock is designed to tunnel at a speed greater than 1 mile per week, which is 6 times faster than The Boring Company's previous generation TBM (Godot+). This is still 4-5 times slower than a garden snail...but Prufrock is catching up! Prufrock’s medium-term goal is to exceed 1/10 of human walking speed, which is 7 miles per day.
