Lewis Chesler. Lewis Chesler, a native of Cleveland, graduated from Amherst College with high honours in cultural history. Following college, he served in the US Peace Corps and in the Merchant Marine. In the mid-70’s, he became artistic director of the Long Beach Performing Arts Centre.

LEWIS CHESLER (Executive Producer) — Lewis Chesler is one of the first producers of material for the alternative television market and since has produced TV shows that stretch the boundaries of the medium beyond the conventional programming of the standard broadcasters.
HBO’s first dramatic series in 1984. Executive Producer Lewis Chesler helped establish the acceptance of cable programing as an avenue for top film and television talents. The Hitchhiker won eight ACE Awards and became the highest ranking series on television.
The Hitchhiker was created by Lewis Chesler and Riff Markowitz, later joined by Richard Rothstein. The pilot episode consisted of three stories. Richard Rothstein wrote two and Jeph Loeb and Matt Weissman wrote the third. Paul Hoffert created the theme music for the show. Episodes Series overview
