Jake Piper was a quarryman at the Quarry, west of Talmberg, known for whistling on a pipe wherever he goes.
During Hare Hunt, the Innkeeper tells Henry that Jake is the best friend of Thomas of the Baths, one of the suspected poachers. Jake thoroughly denies any involvement, claiming that he isn't stupid enough to actually go through with one of his drunken boasts to bring the local girls venison.
However, Blacksmith's Betty reveals to Henry that she witnessed a group of people having a feast in a clearing. On further investigation, Henry discovers a deer carcass, which is enough to put pressure on Jake, who confesses that Tom supplied it.
