Known for making audiences laugh, Walker began her acting career in comedies like "Slap Shot" (1977) starring Paul Newman and "Girlfriends" (1978) starring Melanie Mayron. She had a part on the television special "Light's Out" (NBC, 1971-72).
Walker won an Outstanding Lead Actress For a Single Performance Primetime Emmy Award for "The Adams Chronicles" in 1976. Her film career continued throughout the seventies and the eighties in productions like "Rich Kids" (1979) with Trini Alvarado, "Neighbors" (1981) and "In Our Hands" (1983).
