Willie Lee McCovey (January 10, 1938 – October 31, 2018), nicknamed "Stretch", "Mac" and "Willie Mac", was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman from 1959 to 1980, most notably as a member of the San Francisco Giants for whom he played for 19 seasons.

Oct 31, 2018 · The Giants sadly announced on Wednesday that Giants Hall of Fame first baseman Willie McCovey has died at the age of 80 after a battle with ongoing health issues.
Willie McCovey burst on the scene in 1959, winning National League Rookie of the Year honors despite playing in just 52 games. By the time he retired in 1980, McCovey was a San Francisco legend. “He could hit a ball farther than anyone I ever played with,” said teammate Willie Mays.
