Fingers won three World Series titles while with Oakland from 1972-74 and was the MVP of the 1974 Series, earning a win and two saves in four games. Fingers won or saved eight of the A’s 12 World Series victories during their three-year run atop the baseball world.

Jul 13, 2005 · Rollie Fingers, the Major League Baseball player, was born on Sunday, August 25, 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio. Fingers was 22 years old when he broke into the major leagues on September 15, 1968, with the Oakland Athletics.
Fingers made his first start of the season on April 22 in Minnesota. He shut out the Twins on five hits, 7-0, facing just 32 batters. He made his next start five days later in Seattle, going 8⅓ innings and allowing five runs on six hits in a 13-5 win over the Pilots.

Shortly after his enshrinement in Cooperstown, the Brewers retired No. 34 – Fingers’ jersey number – to commemorate his four-year tenure with the team. Rollie Fingers captured the 1981 American League MVP Award after recording 28 saves and a 1.04 ERA that season. He also won the 1981 AL Cy Young Award.
