Harvey House. The Casa del Desierto station and hotel was built in 1911 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to replace an earlier one built in 1885 that burned in 1908. The Santa Fe closed the station in 1973.

A Real Desolate Harvey House. Jun 2022. Stopped here for about 15 minutes on the way back to Vegas. The actual structure is the original Harvey House hotel train depot, Casa del Desierto, now used mostly for special events. It also houses a couple of history museums, opened at various times.
The Harvey House in Barstow was called “Casa del Desierto” (House of the Desert). Originally constructed in 1885, the Harvey House Railroad Depot in Barstow consisted of a wooden depot, restaurant, and hotel that later burned in 1908.
